Posting rules
Short version: be real, be fair, show the pay, never ask for money.
Last updated 19 October 2026. Draft for approval.
For businesses
- Real jobs only, at a real business within five miles of Forest Row, that you can hire for.
- Show the pay. At least the legal minimum wage for the age of the person you'd hire. Unpaid roles must be genuine volunteer roles, clearly marked.
- Never ask applicants for money, for training, uniform, kit, checks, or anything else, and never ask for bank details or identity documents before an offer.
- Describe the job, not the person. No wording that shuts people out because of age, sex, race, religion, disability, pregnancy, sexual orientation or gender reassignment, unless the law genuinely allows it for that role.
- 16 and 17 year olds: only mark a job "open to 16+" if it's suitable and legal for them, including the rules on hours and breaks.
- Keep contact on the board until you've spoken to someone. Don't move applicants to WhatsApp or other apps first.
- Use applicants' details only for the job they applied for.
- Mark jobs filled when they are.
For job seekers
- Be yourself: your own name and true details.
- Keep it about work. No contact details in your headline or skills, no adverts.
- Be polite to businesses, even when it's a no.
What we remove
Anything that breaks these rules, anything illegal, scams, fake jobs or profiles, multi-level marketing and "be your own boss" schemes, jobs outside the five-mile area, adult work, and anything abusive, threatening or that puts someone at risk. Repeated or serious breaches mean the account is suspended.
