Every job shows its pay
A job can't be posted without its pay: an hourly rate, a day rate, a salary or a range. Volunteer roles say so clearly. Pay below the legal minimum wage is held back automatically.
Every business is checked once, by a person
Before its first job goes live, we check that a business is real, that it's within five miles of Forest Row, and that the person signing up works there. After that, its jobs go live straight away. We aim to check new businesses within two working days.
Nothing goes stale
Jobs come down after 30 days unless the business renews them. When a job is filled, the business marks it, and the page says "filled" so nobody applies for nothing.
An automatic check for scams
Jobs that ask for fees, bank details or identity documents up front, or that try to move you to WhatsApp, are held for a person to look at. Wording that might put people off unfairly, like "young" or "native speaker", is pointed out to the business with a better way to say it.
Profiles stay private
Job seekers' profiles are never public and never on Google. Businesses can only browse people who switch on "open to offers", and even then they see a first name, a village and skills. Contact details are shared only when the job seeker says yes. Under 18s can't be browsed at all.
Applicants can see what happens
Businesses set a status on every application: seen, shortlisted, not this time, offered. Job seekers can see it, and can see every business that has opened their CV. Businesses can promise to reply to everyone, and that badge pauses itself if they stop.
Anyone can report a problem
There's a report link on every job, business and profile. A person reads every report and every decision is logged. How we handle reports and complaints.
Who runs it
Work Local Forest Row is built and run by Ferris Creative, a web studio in Forest Row, as a community project. It's free to use. A business can pay £10 to feature a job, and local businesses can sponsor the board. That's the only money involved.
